This move was almost inevitable for Manchester United as the signings of Angel Di Maria and Marcos Rojo as they needed to relieve some expensive wages to fit what eventually would also be the wage of Radamel Falcao.
Even with the broken down efforts of United trying to get Arturo Vidal from Juventus, they ended up letting go of another midfielder, which may prove to be costly if an unfortunate injury happens to one of their main stars, as Kagawa is a high caliber player.
For Dortmund, this means that they are just trying to ease the pain of losing Robert Lewandowski, and with Mats Hummels and Marco Reus still with the team, Dortmund is still in a great position to make an impact in the Champions League this year!
